Yesterday was my 5 month anniversary with Crossfit. (Ha ha. Like how I talk about it like it's a person?)
When I started Crossfit, I was focused on not quitting, so I didn't put too much thought into what I was eating. I mean, I usually try to eat a low-carb diet, but I wasn't on any kind of plan, just eating what I thought I should.
Yesterday, I finally decided to try The Zone, which is the Crossfit recommended eating "style". I really knew nothing about it other than what my friend had told me about 3 block meals.
Um, what's a block?
Sunday night I spend nearly 2 hours putting together my menu for Monday. Yes, I said Monday. Not the entire week, just Monday. I was so confused!! But after many, many texts with a Zone professional (aka fellow Crossfitter), this is what I came up with:
I made a few changes, but overall, it turned out great! (Changes included adding 1/4 avocado to my lunch, only 3 almonds in the snack, and the last snack moved to 30 minutes before bed and changed to 1 cup strawberries, 2 slices deli ham, and 3 almonds.)
Last night it didn't take me nearly as long to put together my menu for today.
I must say, though, I'm already sick to death of eggs. They're not my favorite anyway, so I really need a different protein source for breakfast.
Has anyone ever done The Zone? Any tips??
PS - I feel the need to say that I'm not necessarily on a "diet". I'm not overweight and I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight, but I am trying to tone. I'm working out really hard with Crossfit and I'd like to be able to see the muscles I'm building. :)
Tuesday night, Joey and I went on a date. In the past, this wouldn't necessarily be "news worthy", but since Joey started on this schedule where he works every weekend, we haven't had a regular date night.
In fact, I can't remember the last date we had. So, yeah. Totally news worthy.
We had plans to got to dinner then meet up with some of Joey's cop buddies at a karaoke bar. This would involve me staying out past my regular bedtime of 9:30. But I was ready. I hadn't been on a date with Joey is forever, so I didn't care how late we stayed out.
And for the record, we hadn't even made it to the restaurant yet! I know... we know how to party!
We went to dinner at one of our all-time favorites (but we don't go much), Soluna. They have the absolute best quesadillas. It's pretty embarrassing the noises I make when I eat them.
OMG dinner was so fabulous! But let me tell you, when we finished dinner at 9:15, I was ready for bed!
So we headed to get some coffee so I wouldn't fall asleep at the bar. (And also, for the record, I didn't have 4 drinks at the bar. I had to work the next morning!)
We had so much fun and promised to do this on a more regular basis.
Even if I do need a caffeine pick-me-up halfway through the night.
Listy-loo. That was the subject of an email I sent Joey yesterday. Trust me, he loves to wake up to an email from me with a list of items I need to talk about. *insert major sarcasm*
Yesterday, there was a little bottle of beer salt on the kitchen counter (it's just lime flavored salt) and I walked in to find Taylor taking a little taste. He looked right at me and said, "What? I'm just a guy getting a little beer salt!"
I've been added to a new private Facebook group and every time someone posts something on the wall, I get an email. Unless I can figure out how to stop this, I may have to delete my email account. *only slight sarcasm*
The two things that I hate the most in this world are cancer and infidelity. They make me so angry I could punch a kitten.
We take Trigger to crossfit with us in the evenings and he absolutely loves it! We crossfit out in the country and there is a ton of room for him to run and play. By the time we get him back in the car to head home, he's passed out in the back seat before we even get out of the driveway.
I had the worst night of sleep last night. I was so tired, but I promise you I must have woken up every 30 minutes. Hopefully my grande Starbucks will help me make it through the day.
Last Friday on my way home from work, I was rear-ended on the highway in my beautiful, new car. Now I have the pleasure of dealing with insurance companies and lame rental cars.
Once Taylor was feeling better and over his stomach bug, it didn't take long for us to slide right back into vacation mode.
When we weren't sliding, you could usually find me like this...
(I had to included this picture because my mom is the only person I know who doesn't need a float to float. LOL)
There were snow cones in the pool (as well as the adult version for those of us 21 and up)...
And even a little snuggling...
There was Jenga..
And even a birthday party for my mom...
The day before we left, we went with my cousin and her kids to play black light mini-golf. The kids loved it! (Also, it should be noted that I beat Joey and he owes me a massage, which I am still trying to cash in on.)
Other than Taylor being sick for a couple days, we had a great vacation. It was so fun to have Joey with us for 5 days straight!
It's been a while, but I'm back! I've actually been back for a couple of days, but just couldn't bring myself to compose a blog post. My heart is still on vacation.
Speaking of vacation, late last week, I started packing for our annual trip to Houston. Needless to say, Trigger was a bit sad.
He must have known what was going on because as soon as I got my clothes together, he curled up next to them and wouldn't budge. And once I brought out the suitcases, he started unpacking things I would pack. Silly puppy.
At one point, he thought about driving. Boy was he in for a shock when we dropped him off at the kennel.
Taylor, on the other hand, was ready from the word go!
All snuggled up and cozy for the ride.
The drive was uneventful, but that night was not. Taylor caught a nasty stomach bug and vomited all night long. It was horrible. I had high hopes of it being just a 24 hour bug, but it held on all day Saturday...
... and when it was still hanging around on Sunday, we headed to the emergency clinic. Taylor had not been able to keep anything down for 2 whole days and I was getting worried.
We found the best clinic ever and were seen by a doctor within 15 minutes of arrival. She gave Taylor Zofran for the nausea and it did the trick almost instantly. He was like a new child!
Later that day he was back in the pool and had nearly forgotten he was ever sick! Thank you Jesus!
(More vacation pics to come, but I have to get them from my momma, who happens to be celebrating her birthday today! Happy birthday to the best momma in the world. I love you!)
I’m Stephanie - wife to one extremely handsome cop; mother to two extremely silly kids. The hubs and I have been married since February ’99. I love him more each day and simply can’t get enough of him. My daughter, Ashton, is 12 going on 17. She’s beautiful, creative, smart, and oh, so sassy. Taylor, our son, is 8 and is so much like his daddy it’s scary. He makes me laugh all the time with the silly things he says and does. He won’t remember what you told him 5 minutes from now, just like his daddy. I love to laugh and spend time with friends and family. I’ve also recently discovered a love for cooking and enjoy sharing recipes. I love finding new blog friends, so be sure to leave a comment so I can do the same!
