Parenting: Not for the faint of heart.

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

If there's anything that can single-handedly make you feel like a huge failure, and yet in the same breath like you're the best ever, it's parenting.

Parenting is hard, people.  And discipline is the worst part.

I truly hate it when my children make poor choices and force me to discipline them.  I don't like it at all.  But I know it's necessary.

Right now, when I'm in the midst of the discipline (and the silent treatment from one of above-mentioned children), it helps me to remember that I was no saint as a child.  I gave my parents plenty of attitude, but I think I turned out ok.  My brother really gave my parents a run for their money, but he's turned out ok, too.

And the saving grace in all of this is that both me and my brother have a wonderful relationship with my parents.  So I suppose there's still hope that my kids will get over the discipline and love me in the end, right?

Girl, you are one of the best mother’s ever and I know those kids will NEVER doubt your love for them, even in the midst of the discipline moments.

Oh lady, I was a hell child. My poor parents. But, even through it all, I had a great relationship with them and never doubted that they loved me--I was just too cool for them--ha! I have a half sister who is a lot younger than me and I see her doing the same things I did and it makes me sad that I treated my parents that way, but, I know that it's part of growing up.

Your kiddos love you and will never doubt your love for them, don't you worry!

You are an incredible Mom! I don't know how I will do it someday... well I know I will just "do" it - but to be a strong, fun, gorgeous mom AND wife like you... that will be tricky.

awe, the guilt feeling we get as parents. i hate it too. my baby does not do wrong too often but, yes, sometimes she does get herself into some trouble.

i, too, was a hellion to my parents and today have a wonderful close relationship with them.

your kids, as well as you, are awesome. don't sweat it.

I remember my parents disciplining me and how much I "hated" them for it - but now we have a great relationship. And honestly - they will thank you for it one day!

That's one of my biggest fears of one day being a parent. I know how awful I was to my mom and I'm scared my son or daughter will do me the same way. The discipline has to be the hardest part!

I know what you mean! My oldest are just 8 so we are just really getting into the whole eye rolling, foot stomping stuff. If I never had to discipline I think I would have like a 100 of them. I'm just praying daily that they will each fall in love with Jesus and in the end everything will be alright.

I love him more each day and simply can’t get enough of him. My daughter, Ashton, is 12 going on 17. She’s beautiful, creative, smart, and oh, so sassy. Taylor, our son, is 8 and is so much like his daddy it’s scary. He makes me laugh all the time with the silly things he says and does. He won’t remember what you told him 5 minutes from now, just like his daddy. I love to laugh and spend time with friends and family.
