So I went to lunch with a friend...

... and had a great time.

Then the bill came and I paid in cash.

The waiter brought me my change, less $.60 because he couldn't "find" change for a dollar.

Um, you're a waiter. Isn't that your job? To bring food and have change? (I'm not degrading waitstaff by any means. I've done this before and I always seemed to "find" change.)

I'm not cheap, and I don't need the $.60 to survive, but why on earth do waiters these days think that it's ok to take my money? This isn't the first time it's happened and it's really starting to get on my nerves.

I mean, if you want to tip yourself buddy, you just did. But it certainly would have been more had you let me do it.

UGH!! Am I the only one who gets frustrated with this? Isn't it just a clever form of stealing?

I read your blog and I love it! Now to add to your post, I'm an ex-server and I ALWAYS found change. EVEN if I had to run to my car OR I would give the person EXTRA change. Say there change back was 71 cents and I had three quarters I would give them that! I have had this happen to me and it sucks!

You and I were both Sonic girls so we know that we loved tips. I know that now with debit cards the tipping for sonic kids has gone down, but I hate it when they ask, "do you need your change back?" I always gave the change back, I never expected to keep the change and I always was thankful when someone gave it back to me (and sometimes more). When they ask for it, it makes me want to say yes, as a matter of fact, I do want my change back. And had you not asked, I would have given it to you!

Wow, I am a waitress and if it's 60 cents... I just round up to the next dollar if I can't find change ANYWHERE. The people usually just give it back to me anyway. lol

That does seem like a clever way to tip yourself b/c I don't think most people want to fuss over that amount of money but that's not the point! lol

Yup, pretty much stealing. Whether it's 60 cents or 60 bucks!

I HATE when waiters round up the bill. If it's $10.61, and I pay with a $20, I don't want $9 back. I want $9.32. I'll probably make it up to you in your tip, but if you round up, I'm shorting you. Period.

let's get acquainted
